FO: Friday: I am a crafter not a photographer

This FO Friday is brought to you by my inability to rotate these pictures!

When I went home all the way back in December. I managed to do the super cool (read stupid) thing of leaving my camera there. Opps! I left some other stuff too but nothing extremely crucial to my being. 

So if you've noticed that I have been pulling stock pictures from the web lately as well as the quality of my actual pictures have been a little bad. That is because I have been using my phone camera. It is getting by well enough but I'm not sure how to do some of the more nuanced things with it. Like rotating pictures. 

This is actually one of the first things I made when I started working at sewtropolis. I figured that I needed more experience than pure quilting if I had to work in a sewing store and that this bag that was cute and functional would be a great place to start. 

Also. I was seriously in love with that canvas fabric. Seriously how cute is it? It has been sitting at Sewtropolis since October now. And I can't wait to take it home so it can be mine mine mine. (did I mention that I want it to be mine?) 

But first before I can take it home I decided that I wanted to teach a class on it. Because it is cute and the perfect size for a day of light reading. So I thought I would share the wealth/joy of an adorable bag. 

Even if the pictures are sideways hopefully you all can see how cute this bag is. The grommets in particular I am in love with.

FO: Friday It ended!

I have good news. It took a little longer than expected. But I am happy to report... It ENDED!

The final product is on display at sewtropolis. Hopefully catching the eye of potential class takers. And knitters who would like to try it.

In the end it took me 4.5 balls to knit. out of this wonderful shade of spud and chole sweater. It will take you more or less depending on hip circumference. Over all I am super happy with the result. It is cute and warm.

Also after trying to learn how to crochet four + times in my life I am really glad that something finally stuck. I was able to crochet the edging on my skirt so it won't stretch! and by the looks of it I was successful!!!

It is funny that I am more proud of my waistband than I am of the rest of the skirt (I'm pretty sure I did a single crochet instead of a slip stitch as well but it worked about the same).  Not that I don't love the rest of the skirt. I just know I am capable of the rest of the skirt.

Sorry for all the weird close photos. It is really really hard to take a picture of yourself with a touch screen phone backwards.
It has to stay at the store for now. But really I can't wait to wear it!

FO: Friday-- Babies!

In the month of December I have made more quilts that month than I have ever. They were all baby quilts. And they were actually all the same. But they are adorable!

The first one I made from 8 fat quarters, a yard yard of solid and yard for the backing. 

Sorry for the poor lighting in these were taken after the sun went down. I forgot to do it in the daylight! But it is lovely! and a really really great first introduction to applique. It is nothing to be afraid of I promise.

It is currently at sewtropolis if you need a better look at it! It is a great quilt for using up scraps, the fat quarters that you are hoarding and want to keep them mostly intact. Or if you bought many fat quarters from the same line.

I quilted it on my home machine and then bound it on a road trip to Duluth. (a 15 passenger van and a needle makes for fun times!)

And then my friend Tanya just had twin nephews and she was over for a holiday swap craft weekend. And after a complete fail at attempting to make them hats (you will NEVER see pictures of that really sad little hat) so then I looked through what I had and we decided that simple applique baby quilts would be easy to do. we went through my scraps and used a bunch of heat and bond. Then she got to cut out ALL of the petals (and there were a lot. And in the end the only thing that had to be purchased for the Christmas presents were the backing and the binding. 

I wish I had a picture of the backingit was sooooo cute!

And look at how cute the twins are! I got permission from their mommy to post the pic.

The quilt is a design from the moda bake shop and I will be teaching a class on it in February at Sewtropolis! it is a great cheap way to use scraps and get a special yard of fabric you've been dying to get but don't know what to do with (and let's face it we all have one of those)

FO: Friday I'm a pattern designer! (almost)

This FO:Friday is brought to you by the first pattern that I am planning on publishing.

They are simple worsted weight slipper socks that I am going to call "Sleepy Time Socks" made out of Spud and Cloe Sweater yarn. I have made patterns before but have never published them mostly just using them for my own pleasure/ crafty endeavors.

Why then have I decided to publish this pattern? I will be teaching a class on it! They are just a simple pair of beginner socks but to prevent copyright issues/other things I have decided it would easiest to provide my own pattern. So far I've been learning so much about the process. It is one thing to knit a pattern (even a made up one in your head) it is a completely different thing to write down the pattern in coherent sentences.

I am still writing down the last bits of the pattern but if you're interested in my class you can sign up for it on the Sewtropolis website or give them a call during business hours. Also be sure to check out Nikol's blog. She's doing a giveaway right now (yay!) and there is also a blog post about me (!) And about puppies. Who can resist a blog post about puppies? I sure can't!

Right now I think my pattern will only be available through taking the sewtropolis class. We'll see how it goes after that though. To see these socks in person right they are currently on display at the Sewtropolis store!
