Sunday Stash: Gardens and Machines

On Tuesday I told you that I was trading a sewing machine for a quilt. When I offered this to Krista I knew exactly what fabric I should use. It was fabric that I had just bought and was the perfect intersection of my color pallet ant my roommates.

I wanted to show all of them, so sorry that they are little but this is the full line. (of which I have fat quarters of) I have enough to make Krista a lovely quilt and will have enough left over to make myself one as well. I will gladly give it away some pretty fabric for a pretty machine.

What attracted me to this fat quarter bundle in the first place though are these keys. I am quite taken by them.

Tools Tuesday: Trade secrets

I have some excitement to share.

Take a look at this nice little piece of furniture. Some of you may recognize it. Some of you may think it is a night stand. 

Open it up. What it flips out? What does this do I wonder... hmmm looks to be something inside of there. Better check it out a little bit closer. What is this?

That is right friends. It is a wonderful new (to me) sewing machine. Best of all? I am getting this wonderful fine piece of sewing history as a trade. It is my roommates. She doesn't use it very much at all. So it gets to come into a place  where it will be loved dearly. And my roommate is going to get a quilt that she has helped me design. Who is getting the better end of the deal? I think I am. And she thinks she is. That is how you know it is a really good trade.

As for the machine itself I don't know too much about it. It is a post world war II era Sewmor made in Japan. That means it could be as old as the late 40s and as new as the early 60s. It does operate with a knee peddle though, which I am extremely excited to learn how to use. 

Just a bit of luck and an awesome trade. We're both happy and really that is all that matters right? (and cool sewing machines)

Mondog #6 One Tuff Puppy

This is Tuffy. She is the dog of my ravelry friend Hilary. And sooo cute!

She was a stray that Hilary found and from what i can tell she really earned her name! In her own words,

We found Tuffy living in the backyard at the shop at my husband’s work. She was sneaking in at night and sleeping under a tarp and wouldn’t let anyone near her until I started working with her. She was certainly abandoned and maybe abused. We brought her home in April 2010 and she’s been glued to my side since then! She’s a real joy to us.

What a good story! I love it when dogs and people find happy endings. And from the sounds of it Tuffy and Hilary get on really well and what more can you ask for in a dog?

FO: Friday-- Babies!

In the month of December I have made more quilts that month than I have ever. They were all baby quilts. And they were actually all the same. But they are adorable!

The first one I made from 8 fat quarters, a yard yard of solid and yard for the backing. 

Sorry for the poor lighting in these were taken after the sun went down. I forgot to do it in the daylight! But it is lovely! and a really really great first introduction to applique. It is nothing to be afraid of I promise.

It is currently at sewtropolis if you need a better look at it! It is a great quilt for using up scraps, the fat quarters that you are hoarding and want to keep them mostly intact. Or if you bought many fat quarters from the same line.

I quilted it on my home machine and then bound it on a road trip to Duluth. (a 15 passenger van and a needle makes for fun times!)

And then my friend Tanya just had twin nephews and she was over for a holiday swap craft weekend. And after a complete fail at attempting to make them hats (you will NEVER see pictures of that really sad little hat) so then I looked through what I had and we decided that simple applique baby quilts would be easy to do. we went through my scraps and used a bunch of heat and bond. Then she got to cut out ALL of the petals (and there were a lot. And in the end the only thing that had to be purchased for the Christmas presents were the backing and the binding. 

I wish I had a picture of the backingit was sooooo cute!

And look at how cute the twins are! I got permission from their mommy to post the pic.

The quilt is a design from the moda bake shop and I will be teaching a class on it in February at Sewtropolis! it is a great cheap way to use scraps and get a special yard of fabric you've been dying to get but don't know what to do with (and let's face it we all have one of those)

Mondog #4: 2 for 1 special

This is my fourth Mondog! (if you count the other three from my other blog, which I do!)

This is Charlie, he is one and super cute!

This is Beezie, she is two and a queen bee. And she knows it!

aren't they cute? They look like they would be awesome at puppy cuddles! Have a wonderful Mondog everyone!
